Finding your happy place

Finding your happy place at Pentop Cottage

I try not to travel to the same place twice. So how come I find myself booking a break in Snowdonia for the eighth time? Because we’ve found our happy place.  For me and my partner Lee, it comes in the form of a little game keeper’s cottage buried in the middle of a forest not far from Betws-y-Coed in the Snowdonia National Park.

It’s hard to put my finger on what draws us back to this little bolt hole named ‘Pentop’ time after time. Although we love the White Company bath robes, the Pure Lakes toiletries and the top end kitchenware, it’s the little touches that make it special. Owners, David and Emma Dallimore, have made it their mission to create a stay as comfortable as you could wish for, and they really succeed.

The Wee Lodge

The Wee Lodge, Loch Morar, Glamping pod

A warm welcome awaits you at the small crofting township of Bracara on the north shores of Loch Morar in the West Highlands of Scotland. Nestling on the shore of Loch Morar, the deepest freshwater loch in the UK at about 300 meters, this unspoilt corner of Scotland boasts a variety of exciting things to do and a rich flora and fauna. White tailed Sea Eagle soar majestically high above the mountains of North Morar and Otters play in the mouth of the River Morar, UKs shortest river at about 1 kilometre, with the beautiful Dipper gracing the shores of both loch and river. Walk along the shore of Loch Morar along the ancient track to Tarbet on Loch Nevis. Visit the white sandy beaches of the coast and marvel at the turquoise sea akin to the Caribbean.

Yew Tree Farm Self Catering Cottage Accommodation, Lake District

The Lake District’s most successful self-catering cottage company, Heart of the Lakes, is honouring one of the region’s greatest literary figures by giving away a holiday in the 17th century farmhouse she once owned.  Beatrix Potter, who would have turned 150 years old on 28th June this year, bequeathed the property, Yew Tree Farm, to the National Trust.  It famously featured in the 2006 film, ‘Miss Potter’, starring Renée Zellweger and Ewan McGregor.
