There are just 100 days until the start of the 2018 Chilterns Walking Festival spring event, which takes place from Saturday 19 May to Sunday 03 June 2018.
The programme of over 50 guided walks, events and activities includes opportunities to try short circular walks, take the train for a walk and longer linear walks. What they all have in common is the gorgeous Chilterns landscape - with the mix of rolling farmland, woodlands and spectacular views - and a knowledgeable guide to share stories and point out places of interest.
Families with children looking for easy to access, free and fun things to do over the school half-term will have plenty of exciting options to choose from. Many of the walks have been devised to encourage children into walking from an early age, helping them attain recommended levels of outdoor exercise to keep healthy.
Each programmed walk is guided by an experienced walk leader who knows the area well and is keen to share stories of the people and places that have shaped the countryside.
Chilterns Conservation Board People and Society Officer Annette Venters said "The Chilterns is within easy reach of London and other towns around. We'd like to welcome more people to discover this wonderful landscape, and to enjoy over 2,000km of designated walking routes".
Hertfordshire based Complete Outdoors is the main event sponsor. Managing director Andrew Inkley said "For over 35 years we've been helping people to prepare for their adventures, whether walking in the park, or climbing a mountain. As a Chilterns company we loved the idea of supporting a local walking festival that helps people discover what's on their doorstep. Although no previous experience is necessary, we do recommend good fitting footwear".
Most are free of charge though some require a small fee which is clearly shown. To assist walk leaders with expected numbers, all must be pre-booked.
